Turkey Festival

It's been agreed that all these little Illinois towns find a food to focus on and have a big festival each year. It brings tons of visitors which want to buy food, play at the carnival & shop all the craft booths. But the carnivals aren't so enticing and the craft booths.....we figure all these people must be retired or do this for a hobby, because how can anyone possibly make a living doing this? While we've seen some intersting displays, others appear to be just for the cause of having a booth and trying to sell things.

But the city of Tremont did have some amazing turkey sandwiches as well as an antique tractor pull. They have the turkey cooking & prep down to a science! First the smokers all lined up. As they finish they're taken out and placed in a wheelbarrow of sorts, then carted off to the diss-assembly line where they are pulled apart for sandwiches and wings etc. Then the raw turkeys come out of the BIG plastic bag and are thrown on the grill for the next round of cooking.

The tractor pull was neat also. These old (& young) farmers fix up their antique tractors to see who can haul the farthest or the most weight.
